New Poll: Best TV Opening Credits - Round 1

*Updated*

As for our new poll, do you ever find yourself driving in your minivan humming the Knight Rider theme music? Or see someone sporting a mohawk and think to yourself, "I pity the fool!" Not only do you show your age, but you may be suffering from the irreversible side effects of TV's golden age - back when cars talked, Tom Selleck had free reign of the estate's Ferrari and MacGyver could always save the day with a paper clip and duct tape. These were men's men, and they are the subject of the next poll.

Listed below are the opening credits for 6 most testosterone laden, man-crush inspiring, über male TV shows of yesteryear. Two and a Half Men have nothing on these specimens of machismo. These shows brought confidence back to the emasculated. The ladies may have worn shoulder pads, but at least the men had the General Lee.

The poll question is which of these shows had the best opening credits. This in not to say which was the best show, per se; but which show brings you "back" the best.

In the coming weeks, we will spotlight other classic TV themes for future polls.

Of course, as I limit the choices to 6 there are many worthy contenders who did not make the cut. Honorable mentions are listed below the chosen 6. If I have omitted a fantastic opening sequence, please let me know.

Now - in no particular order.

Magnum P.I.

MacGyver

The A-Team

Knight Rider

The Dukes of Hazzard

The Greatest American Hero

(I still know the words to this theme song)

Honorable Mentions:

· Airwolf

· ChiPs

· Miami Vice

· The Fall Guy

· Incredible Hulk

· Buck Rogers

· Hunter

That was a trip down memory lane. Loved watching all the intros and the kids now want to see these shows on tv.

What, no Star Trek:TNG? Weak Jared...
Other Fave's:
- Quantum Leap
- Fantasy Island (lol)
- Love Boat (sentimental value)

Tui: Star Trek: TNG is classic, but not classic enough. Perhaps the original Star Trek should be on the list. But TNG - we still watch that. It hasn't "aged" enough yet. Quantum Leap should be on Honorable Mentions. Fantasy Island will make the a list in the future (favorite shows with short people).

Annie: That's why there's Netflix. They look so much better on DVD NEways.

I love The Greatest American Hero, but if we are talking about a Man's Man show, a clumsy man in tights is not at the top of my list. And I absolutely love MacGyver but the song is too orchestrated, too many strings. The Man's Man soundtrack would need to be more synthesized. Dukes of Hazard is classic but the music is forgettable. Sooo...that brings us down to 3. Knight Rider has too much car, A-Team has too much talking. I really like the A-Team music better but my final vote is for....MAGNUM P.I.

Mostly because he looks so great in those short-shorts.

Karin: I admit that The Greatest American Hero is the weak link here. Many of the runner ups would have qualified better. But the theme song is stuck in my head! "Believe it or not. I'm walking on air . . ." I thought I was doing a favor to everybody to get reacquainted with such a catchy tune.

Miami Vice would probably best fit your ideal theme music, but other than that - it is fairly non-descript.

Jared, you totally forgot another real man's man show: Airwolf. Check it out: http://youtube.com/watch?v=eBvqbggQiOY

In fact, AdForum.com listed this commercial as one of the top five for this week. It knows a good theme too: http://youtube.com/watch?v=d82-bgPFfwI
Enjoy :)

I gotta give Knight Rider the nod. Love or hate the Hoff...that intro had a deep effect on me as a 7 year old.

Magnum PI in French is just wrong. Despite it being called "moustache," Tom's was all-american.
