I have had many requests for a Henry update. Poor guy. All the stereotypes about the middle child are already coming to pass. Forgotten, neglected, unheralded.
Not true.
He just didn’t have a birthday- and I, as you may have noticed, have not been very good at pulling blog posts out of thin air. I need some sort of event to justify my time spent here.
But, today we went to Lagoon. So, that is a once every five years or so occurrence, so it seems blog worthy.
Jack is fearless, apparently. So, he took Jared and off they went to ride the big roller coasters. That made Henry my buddy for the day, with Eleanor in tow.
He was exuberant. He was excited. He was just so much fun to be with today. I love to watch him with strangers. He has no fear. He thinks everyone is just as interested in him as he is in them. The workers who come to check his seatbelt get a full smile and eye contact. He looks everyone he meets right in the face- almost daring them not to fall in love with him.
We rode the carousel several times. The first time all went smoothly. The second time he chose the giraffe. But after it got started we realized that it didn’t go up and down. Very disappointing. But, no matter, you can still pretend to go really fast and make the most of the ride.
So, the next time in line he carefully surveyed the choices and asked me, “Does the dog go up and down?” At my affirmation, he decided the dog would be the one for him. (A fact he explained to the girl in front of him when she told her mom she was going to have the dog…)
But, by the time we got to the dog, he was occupied by a toe headed two year old. With only a moment’s pause, he shook off the disappointment and chose another fast horse. Once buckled in, he exclaimed with delight to the lady in front of him, “Yours goes up and down too!!”
Unfortunately a stop at the fountains left him drenched and he was done for the day. I told him to lay down on the hot cement to try to get warm. It was quite a site.
Henry is affectionate and kind. Upbeat and easygoing. Though, he is becoming more opinionated. The other day I was singing (loudly) and he covered his ears and said, “Moooommmm!!! Stoooopppp!!! You are giving me an ear infection!!”
Some Henry phraseology: Looking up at the clear blue sky, “Mom, why aren’t there any clouds in our space today?”
Then, seeing the snow on the mountains, “Mom, when will we have snow in our space?”

If you need a friend- come see Henry, he will make you feel special.
