Jack was begging to go on a car trip. "Please, please, please, we can go anywhere, I don't care, I just want to go somewhere."
"Why?" I ask, thinking of hours in a car with three kids, no husband (he has to work) and usually a dog, one of whom can get very loud when her requests are not met. I just didn't see the attraction.
"So we can eat in the car."
"You want to go on a car trip so you can eat in the car?"
"Ya, candy and stuff."
Ah. So his desire isn't stemming from a need for family bonding time, or even a insatiable curiosity about the great country in which we live.
It is all about the sugar.
Big surprise.
But, somehow, as he mentioned it, I thought a l title change of scenery would be good.
So, we headed north.
First stop, the bustling metropolis of Declo, Idaho, population 338, triple that if you count the cows, home to my dear friend Robbie. We arrived on a Monday afternoon, just in time for some Monday night football, and Family Home Evening.
Robbie and I stayed up way too late talking, then we headed out earlish for a photo op with the locals.
Next stop: Mountain Home, Idaho, home of Jared's sister and family.
It was actually very relaxing. The boys were occupied with cousin Samuel, who was so excited to have some Y chromosomes around as he and his dad are two boys among seven girls. But luckily for me, one of those seven girls, Lacey, is amazing with kids and was basically at Eleanor's beck and call for two days.
Eleanor and I attended Aunt Alissa's preschool music class, and had a great time. We played some cards, watched a movie, and just generally were completely unproductive.
I think the highlight for the kids was going out to collect eggs from the backyard. It was like Easter every day.

How fun! And how brave of you! Hope Jack got his sugar he was craving!
Road trips are all about the sugar for us, too. Though we don't always share with the kids. :)
We made a small error on our trip home from Walla Walla. We gave each of the kids an entire pouch of fruit snacks. For the older two, no problem. But for the 2-yr-old who had never had that much sugar in one sitting? Let's just say that her sugar high while strapped in her carseat got so crazy I was almost scared!
