Our first weekly poll just ended, and I am disappointed at the results - because you know better!!!
Diahan and I very rarely argue about anything - except about this topic. And, unfortunately, the poll results are not improving our relationship - because I do not accept it as binding (the poll result, that is).
The week starts on Monday, for all intents and purposes. Contrary to what the calender says, Sunday is the last day of the week. It is, after all, part of the weekEND. When you say, "I'll see you the beginning of next week," you aren't referring to Sunday.
Should you wish to get scriptural, I am aware that the Sabbath really is Saturday - making Sunday the first day of the week. And I'm sure if I were Jewish (or Seventh-Day Adventist), I'd agree. But for all intents and purposes, I'm not Jewish. Nor is most everybody else at work (I live in Utah) when arriving on a Monday morning cursing deity (gosh). In a thinly veiled attempt at antisemitism, Christianity moved the Sabbath to Sunday as a day of REST - apropos for the end of the week, eh?
And if the International Organization for Standardization says Monday is the first day, who am I to argue? (The ISO, among other things, standardized the speeds at which film is sensitive to light. That's got to count for something.)
As for the photo, these are drawings of the moon by Galileo in 1616. Monday gets its name from the Moon, which in turn gets its name from Mani (Old English Mona), the Germanic Moon god.

You make a good argument. But the visual of the calendar is just too strongly implanted in my brain. I admit, I voted for Sunday. Regardless--the Mamas and the Papas. I LOVE THEM! Post them anytime. ps...I'm still working on Mother Nature. Not going so well. I think we're both offended now. GRRRR
If you do get scriptural, then Sunday is the seventh day and is the day of rest. However, I like to start my week on a spiritual high so I like to think in my world Sunday is the beginning of the week :) !!
I volunteer that Monday is the beginning of the week. Friday is the end of the week. The weekend is a blissful state of un-week that can count as bonus days for fun, extra credit (aka, working), or justified sleep in....unless you've got little 'uns and then I suppose it might be something all together different than my current world of TINK. (two incomes, no kids)
What a wonderful concept: the un-week. I vaguely remember it - back before little 'uns. I think our un-week occurs in the evening now, after about 8:00. TINK is a much more friendly acronym than how I've heard it: DINKs. Dual Income, No Kids. Ah, the good old days.
I vote for Sunday being every day of the week with each day culminating with a banana split and wafer cookie.

A great idea, indeed. How about banana splits this Sunday? We've got the bananas, ice cream and toppings. We need only the wafer cookie. Anybody interested?
